HaLowLink 1 Bitrate in UK

Hi,

I’m using a HalowLink 2 in the UK and just wanted to understand the bitrates we should expect to get between two HalowLink devices connected via 868MHz.

I’ve currently got both HalowLink devices configured as a data bridge, with a 1MHz channel width. The wireless status page in the HalowLink web portal shows a 4.5 Mbit/s bitrate, but we are getting a much lower bitrate than this, difficult to measure pricisely, but would estimate it’s around 0.4-0.5 Mbit/s. Using a 2MHz channel width, getting approximiately double this bitrate, with the status page showing 9 Mbit/s.

(The option “Use standard duty cycle” is disabled).

Are these data rates what we should expect to get in the UK/EU? Just wanted to understand how we should interpret the bitrate/throughput being displayed on the status page against what we are actually seeing?

Also one other question, I realise that Mesh is not an option for us in the UK, but can we connect multiple HalowLink devices to an Access Point in Virtual Wire mode (so 1 x AP and 2-3 x Extenders)?

Thanks,

Jon

Between two identical HL2 units sat in the same room (signal-to-noise is -3/-112dBm) in the UK and without the standard duty cycle restriction enabled, I see:

  • In 1MHz mode: Reporting 4.6Mbit/s (MCS 9), iperf3 receiver achieves 2.44Mbit/s
  • In 2MHz mode: Reporting 9.0Mbit/s (MCS 8), iperf3 receiver achieves 5.37Mbit/s

It drops quite a bit though if I separate the units and drops rather dramatically (as expected) if enabling the standard duty cycle.
