Good morning, I’m looking to implement a mesh network of HaLow wifi access points and HaLow cameras across the Noj K’aax H’men Elijio Panti National Park. I work with the Itzamna Society who manages the park. We struggle with ranger communication, monitoring poachers/illegal loggers, and wildlife research. I’m not an expert on HaLow wifi. I’ve played around with a few of the test kits in the jungle with success, but I need an expert who can work with me to help create a solid implementation plan. Is there anyone here or someone you know you can recommend to contact for help creating a plan?
Hi… Your big issue will be powering the nodes/ cameras for 24/7/365 use. I ended up using 12v 15w solar power units with 20Ah integrated batteries from TecDeft in China (about 68EUR each delivered) plus little fire extinguishers (at 2EUR each delivered) in each casing for just in case. Further check what frequency you’re allowed where you are and the restrictions on it. I’m in the EU on 868Mhz and tested in a dense forested environment and it was a failure. Didn’t try HalowLink 2 ( or 1. 2 didn’t exist at the time) but I tried ALFA, AsiaRF and Anjielo and gave up. I needed to use a LoRa 3dBi aerial on the AP/MESH controller to get some distance and remember that your devices will not be waterproof, so you’ll need waterproof boxes for them. Cameras are the easy part as you can go with solar powered cloud jobs right down to ESP32 cams, as everything HaLow comes with a 2.4Ghz WiFi end point these days.
