We’re getting ready to deploy about 25 Halowlink-1s in a large manufacturing environment to create a mesh backhaul. The devices we’re providing connectivity to will be using the ethernet port on each router. I’m seeking any case studies or configuration advice we can reference ahead of time.
Testing with several units has yielded good results. Here’s what we’ve found so far:
Upgrading the firmware is essential
802.11s mesh mode works well
Having the antennas at similar height is preferable
Extending antennas above machines and other obstacles is worth the effort in many cases
So, we’re going to deploy 25 units with the strategy above and see what happens. Has anyone deployed these at scale? What sort of gotchas might we run into?
The building is about 1.3 million square feet (123,000 square meters). To avoid multi-hop scenarios, we may split up the hardware into zones, each with their own uplink. Naturally, each zone will be on a different channel and not mesh with the other nodes. We require about 250 kbps bandwidth per node, so multi-hop may not be too much of a detriment in reality.
I referenced case studies because I saw some youtube videos from a conference and some of the graphics in the background looked like they had solid information – I just haven’t been able to find it. Some of the links on morse micro’s site that would likely point to reference material lead you to a page with no content.
If anyone from Morse Micro or the community could chime in with their experiences that’d be awesome!
The TV in the background has examples of different deployments. I’m wondering if the general public has access to those case studies. I have found information regarding coverage in remote locations, but not deployments in commercial/manufacturing environments with many routers.
Hi @burkem10 the richest source of field trial insights is from this report that the WBA team orchestrated in 2025. The Morse Micro team were significant contributors to the work, but we wanted the results to be shared openly across the whole market, so the WBA team packaged them up and distribute the full portfolio on behalf of all contributors.
