Questions on getting started with WiFi Halow in Australia

Hello I would like to try use the MM6108 or MM8108 as a hobbyist. I don’t have a background in RF just do software/electronics and cannot find many data sheets or guides for getting started with these modules. Does anyone have any recommendations for modules that can be used legally in Australia?

The data sheet on MM8108-MF15457 seems comprehensive but it is unclear if it is able to be used in Australia. There is a module from AsiaRF that has an Australia option but I cannot find the data sheet.

Also when using modules how do I ensure what I design is compliant? (Do I just need to purchase an antenna the module manufacturer recommends and have shortest possible trace length on pcb?)

Thanks!

Hi @MichaelN

AU does not do module certification, only product. For end products, RCM can leverage EU and/or FCC test reports to pass however if you were to take anything to product for sale you will need to do CISP32 testing.

The MM8108-MF15457 can be operated in Australia! As a hobbyist, just make sure to configure the regulatory domain as required and stay within the EIRP limit (30dBm).

Yep, that’s your best bet.
