Can anyone please suggest / recommend a directional antenna for the HaLowLink 1?
Preferably something with a short cable allowing the directional antenna to be outside a window while the HaLowLink 1 is inside the window.
What kind of gain do you need/how far away are your devices? There’s lots of 915mhz Yagi directional antennas used for LoRaWAN/Meshtastic applications. I tried the “ALFA Network 12 dBi N-Female Directional Yagi Outdoor IoT 915 MHz Antenna for LoRa HaLow AYA-9012” and needed a short SMA to n-type connector cable. The provided dipole antenna (2.34dBi) was sufficient for 400-500m non-line-of-sight, but I’ll be trying 35degree sector coverage with point-to-multipoint setup from ALFA this summer.
Thank you for the suggestion!
I am extending wifi about 74 meters in a highly wifi congested apartment complex.
Halow works beautifully but I would like to have the antenna outside my window while keeping the HaLowLink1 device inside.
Does anyone know of a smaller directional antenna or perhaps an extension cable for the stock antenna?
I believe there are some physical limits to the 915MHz antenna, but you could try Panel Antenna
If the provided antenna works fine, a “SMA male to SMA female cable” will work to get the antenna outside. Depending on where you live, find a local supplier by Googling it. eg. Window Cable. Maybe someone from Morse can confirm the HaLowLink1 uses SMA not RP-SMA
Ddeae All,
Welcome to try Directional Antenna - AsiaRF Wi-Fi Solutions, IoT Connectivity, and Antennas , there are 2, one is yagi, the other is sector. If you need more information, welcome to ask AsiaRF.
The HaLowLink 1 uses an RP-SMA connector to adhere to the FCC requirement of a “non standard” connector. You can easily get adaptors and pre-made cables from places like Digikey and Mouser.
