Expanding Regulatory Regions (Country Unlocks)

Hi everyone, I am Osvaldo Ruscitti Co-Founder of HaLoWave (https://halowave.io/). HaLoWave is the first DePIN Network based on HaLow protocol, we’re building a global network using Morse Micro’s latest chip and we want to make our Miners/Gateways available in as many countries as possible.

We currently support 50 countries, the same countries present in Morse Micro Developer Kit, and we need to unlock additional regions outside of Europe, specifically for the Americas and Asian frequency bands. Could you please add the following countries to the supported regulatory list?

1. Americas & Oceania (902-928 MHz Band) (Aligning with the FCC / AS923 standards already used by US, CA, BR, AR, CO, NZ)

  • MX - Mexico

  • CL - Chile

  • PE - Peru

  • EC - Ecuador

  • UY - Uruguay

  • BO - Bolivia

  • PY - Paraguay

  • CR - Costa Rica

  • PA - Panama

  • DO - Dominican Republic

  • GT - Guatemala

  • SV - El Salvador

  • HN - Honduras

  • NI - Nicaragua

  • JM - Jamaica

  • PR - Puerto Rico

2. Europe, Africa & Middle East (863-868 MHz Band) (Aligning with the ETSI standards already used by your 39 supported countries in this band)

  • UA - Ukraine

  • RS - Serbia

  • ME - Montenegro

  • AD - Andorra

  • MC - Monaco

  • SM - San Marino

  • VA - Vatican City

  • ZA - South Africa

  • IL - Israel

  • EG - Egypt

  • MA - Morocco

  • TN - Tunisia

3. Asia (915-928 MHz / 920-928 MHz Bands) (Aligning with the spectral masks already used by JP, AU, KR)

  • TW - Taiwan

  • PH - Philippines

  • VN - Vietnam

  • TH - Thailand

  • MY - Malaysia

  • ID - Indonesia

  • HK - Hong Kong

Many of these countries share the exact same spectral masks and regulatory requirements as the ones already certified in our and yours active 50-country list (e.g., Mexico and Chile aligning perfectly with FCC/902-928 MHz, and various African/Middle Eastern countries strictly adhering to ETSI/863-868 MHz). We kindly request the activation of these ISO codes within the Morse Micro SDK and firmware. This will enable automatic global compliance for HaLoWave Gateways based simply on their geographic location, leveraging the profiles that are already functioning perfectly.

Thanks a lot for your support, I wait your communication.

Hi @Osvaldo

Apologies for the late reply here.

We are constantly working to introduce more region support to our releases. Unfortunately the regulatory rules for the spectrum 802.11ah uses can vary quite significantly between countries so it’s not often as easy as just enabling the ISO codes to an equivalent regulatory mapping. We assess every region/country closely to enable support to ensure our users remain within what is legal.

Indonesia, for example, currently limits devices in the ISM band to 250kHz bandwidths. Naturally this is quite prohibitive to 802.11ah.

Hi @ajudge,

Thank you for getting back to me and for the detailed explanation. We completely agree with your approach. At HaLoWave, ensuring full legal compliance is a top priority for us as well. We absolutely want to build our network exclusively in countries where the use of the 802.11ah spectrum is fully permitted and aligned with local regulations.

That being said, we believe that expanding across the Americas could be a relatively smooth process, as many countries in that region tend to adopt frequency regulations similar to the US, which are generally more accommodating. We also see strong potential for further expansion in Europe, and we remain very hopeful that many more countries across Asia can be safely mapped and added to the list soon.

We fully understand that assessing these regulatory mappings country by country is a complex and time-consuming effort. We truly appreciate your hard work on this and encourage you to keep pushing forward. We can’t wait to onboard more users from around the world to our network!

Best regards,

Osvaldo - HaLoWave
