MM8108 for a custom real-time MAC implementation

From the public documentation and SDK, the MM8108 appears to run an internal firmware that manages the MAC/PHY functions, but we could not find any documentation describing the internal firmware architecture or whether customer development on the internal processor is supported.

Could you clarify the following?

  1. Is there a supported mechanism for customers to develop or modify firmware running inside the MM8108?
  2. Is an internal firmware SDK or development environment available (e.g. under NDA or through an engineering engagement)?
  3. If the goal is to implement a custom real-time MAC running inside the MM8108 while an external host (e.g. i.MX8) communicates via USB, is this architecture supported?
  4. If so, what level of access is available to the lower MAC and PHY interfaces?

Yes, that’s correct.

The MM8108 does not support customer firmware modification. We do not provide an SDK or mechanism for executing custom software on the chip itself.
