Halowlink 2 fails to pair

Looking for some advice as to why my two brand new HaLowLink 2 devices are failing to pair. I can successfully change the mode on one of the devices to Extender mode via the mode button.

When attempting to pair Extender with the AP following the user guide using the mode button, the Extender device fails to join the AP. The HaLow LED on the Extender will blink rapidly after failing to join AP. I also tried joining using the manual pairing but it too also fails to join after entering SSID and password credentials.

I factory reset multiple times to no avail and swapped AP/Extender mode on my two devices but also to no avail.

I can set both devices to AP mode and run the HaLow radio scan and they can see each other just fine so the radios appear to be working.

I’m out of ideas. Anything else to try?

I have the same problem. I have two US HL2. I have factory reset multiple times, and swapped the AP role and EXT role (factory resetting diligently of course) on each device. Then trying to pair them with the DPP button on each device as well as WebApp and same result as above poster–there is no pairing. One odd thing that differs from HL1 that I noticed is that once the DPP button is pushed (or the WebApp/Dashboard equivalent) on the AP both the WiFI green light as well as the Halow purple light flash. With HL1 if I remember correctly only the Halow purple lights flash when in pairing mode. This problem is of course crazy making  as the devices are not able to be evaluated furhther without a solution here.

Err, that doesn’t sound good!

Can both of you reboot the devices, attempt the pair, then share snapshots of your devices. The snapshots can be created and downloaded in Help → Support. Please share them with me via a direct message as there will be device specific information included, and consider changing any passwords on the device before generating the dump

One thing the HL2s are more sensitive to (which we didn’t call out in the quick start guide - sorry!) is that they sometimes struggle if they’re too close together.

Can you make sure they’re at least 1m (preferably 2m) apart before pairing?

I eventually got my devices to pair by moving them into a room without any electronics and they paired on first try. I do have Z-wave devices in my office where I was originally trying to pair so I don’t know if there was some interference caused by that.

Thank you Morse Micro for the responses and good luck to any others with same issue.

@ajudge I had the same results as @ryanc when i moved the two HL2 to a more isolated environment i was able to pair right away. That is odd as the HL1s did not seem to have much trouble pairing even when there were alot of HL1s running in my test farm. Alot is 16.

I have two HL2 (software 2.11.8) and noticed that the HL2 AP user interface allows setting the Halow SSID and password to have a space as the first character, last character or anywhere in the middle. This is very easy to do by accident on mobile.

The HL2 Extender UI won’t allow these malformed passwords.

However, the HL2 Extender UI won’t permit an empty password field, which should be okay if encryption is not in use.
