HaLowLink-1 Not getting the range I was expecting

I’m testing with two HaLowLink1 units with one as an AP and one as an Extender. Today I put one on my roof and took one to the park across the street connected to my laptop. I was surprised to only get a usable internet connection as far as 670 feet with just a few bare trees in my line of sight. My laptop loses internet connectivity entirely around 730 feet, even though the purple Wi-Fi HaLow LED is still lit up.

Are there settings I can modify in order to maximize the range? I have not changed any configuration settings except to allow the device on the extender to get it’s IP address from my router (the ‘virtual wire’ mode). Or are the results I’m getting what you all would expect?

Narrower channel widths (1, 2, 4, 8MHz) can increase range, as the expense of bandwidth. See the explanation on this post

At 200m you should be fine at 4 or 8Mhz channel widths for 5-8MB/s (though the trees might decrease the range slightly.

Settings to change channel widths are in:
→ Quick Config → section “Wireless” “HaLow WiFi” → Preferred Frequency Width

  • might be slightly different, this is from similar HaLow running OpenWRT, I should be getting my superior Morse Micro HaLowBridge 1’s soon!

Thank you @dblair22 I will try different channel width settings.
