Thanks for holding down the questions. A few differences for Central_Va to be aware of between v1 vs v2.

  • Max PHY Link Rate: 32.5 Mbps vs 43.3 Mbps
  • Max Transmit (Tx) Power23 dBm vs 26 dBm

That said, v1 would be sufficient for their application, in my opinion.

1 device for every 100’ of space

Devices that close will probably saturate the 900Mhz uplink in a mesh. I found the 2.4ghz transmitter on HaLowLink1 is enough for a 80’ diameter in a mostly open field. I’d increase my spacing to every 200’ and accept dead-zones between nodes.

So priority is text, followed by voice, and lastly some sort of data

This will be hard to prioritizes, you will need network blocking of services to force that. I setup DNS-blocking (youtube, windows updates, app stores). But from a network level, WiFi can’t differentiate between a Video Call or a RCS message.

I finally found some HaLowLink 2s at Mouser Electronics (USA).

dblair22 - My issue is NOT the capability of the Link 1 or 2 - it is the WIFI coverage and a way to remain connected to an internet access within a “victim” assembly area ( food and water distribution, medical assistance, relief (financial) assistance, etc ) and a way to connect back to an internet connection to provide communication to friends and family to update safety and status information using the phone in your pocket (no additional equipment needed for the “victims”. I am even considering getting some Magic Jacks to plug in for use. If anyone knows of a standalone text device that works with wifi - i’d like to check those out but have been unable to find any such standalone device .
