Energy Detect Threshold

Why is the energy detect threshold set at -80dBm? The standard for 802.11ah under section 10.42.8 is a systems threshold of –75 dBm per MHz to improve coexistence with other S1G systems. For an 8MHz operating bandwidth I would like to set it to -66. How am I able to do so?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

-75 dBm is the minimum sensitivity for compliance with the 802.11 spec, not the maximum recommendation.

The chips have a rather performant LNA, allowing for comms over greater distances. Hence they are configured to allow for coexistence with devices that are at that cusp of their operating range. The side-effect is that when they wait for the shared medium to be clear before transmitting, the range they need to take into consideration is larger so as to not trample other devices.

Unfortunately this means that the energy detect threshold is not user configurable, as it both degrades performance of the other devices in the shared medium, and in some regions it is part of compliance with their spectral authority.
