RF Interference in 3 HaLow link Setup

Hi Morse Micro team,

We are currently investigating an RF interference issue in our Multi-HaLow setup and would like your guidance to determine whether the observed degradation is related to antenna coupling/isolation, adjacent-channel interference, receiver desensitization, or HaLow RF configuration.

Current RF Configuration

We have three HaLow Access Points operating at:

AP 1: 906 MHz

AP 2: 914 MHz

AP 3: 922 MHz

Frequency separation:

906 → 914 MHz: 8 MHz

914 → 922 MHz: 8 MHz

906 → 922 MHz: 16 MHz

All three APs use the following antenna:

Pulse/Larsen W1063/W1063M – 868–928 MHz swivel-type dipole antenna

Key specifications:

* Frequency range: 863–928 MHz

* Gain: 1 dBi

* Efficiency: 70%

* Impedance: 50 Ω

* VSWR: ≤2

* Radiation pattern: Omnidirectional

* Polarization: Linear

* Antenna length: 195 mm

* Power handling: 1 W

Antenna Placement on STAs

The three antennas are mounted vertically with approximately 1 ft (30 cm) separation between adjacent antennas:

STA3 – 922 MHz
|
| 1 ft
|
STA2 – 914 MHz
|
| 1 ft
|
STA1 – 906 MHz

Issue Observed

When all three APs are operating simultaneously, we observe increased interference and degradation in link performance.

Could you please advise how we can determine whether the observed interference is primarily caused by antenna placement/coupling or by the HaLow RF configuration and adjacent-channel interference, and what antenna spacing, isolation level, or RF measurements/test procedure you would recommend for this three-radio setup?**

We can perform the recommended tests and provide the RF and link measurements for further analysis.

Best Regards,

Arti

Hi @arti.rajput

Out of interest - how are you making the observation of increased interference?

Have a look at the stats output provided by morse_cli -i <interface> stats. There are some broad interference and noise measurements in this dump as well as counters indicating channel access backoffs and so on. I’ve found AI tools can do a reasonable job of interpreting these results but capture the stats periodically and share them here.

A spectrum analyzer will also help you greatly here.

With the antenna placement - despite being in a different channel - you’re probably at risk of overpowering the receivers and you will definitely be seeing interference due to the adjacent channels.

If you space the stations ~2-3m apart does the behaviour improve significantly?
