I am building an auto boat project which utilises two ARFHL-OD-MS02 WiFi gateways for communication between ground control station and the onboard companion chip.
From what I read online and from the system logs, this outdoor wifi gateway device uses MM6108 chip, that’s why I reached out to this community.
Currently, I am facing problems with abnormal decay in signal strength over distance which lead to poor connectivity. I set the two device to be AP/client mode, with the country set to US(I checked the system log and both devices are optimised for US’s frequency band). I have my laptop connected to one device and the companion chip connected to the other over 2.4GHz WiFi. The two gateways communicates via sub-GHz WiFi HaLow.
When I view the signal strength on the admin portal of one gateway, I found out the signal strength is about -56dBm when I place the two gateways litreally side by side. And it starts to drop drastically when the distance gets larger. When it reaches about 1m, the signal strength is about -65dBm to -75dBm. And it drops below -80dBm when it gets beyong 1m. I can’t even ping the ip of the other device once I am about 2m apart. I tested both inside and outside my office. When I am outside, the distance can be slightly longer (about 3m it will lose the ping).
This is very different from what I expect what WiFi HaLow should behave (by right it can reach >1km). Is anyone experienced with debugging AsiaRF’s devices? I have tried with almost all the settings in the admin portal but none of them worked. What is a good debugging direction I should focus on?
